Vinaora Nivo Slider

Vinaora Nivo Slider is a great slideshow module for Joomla. It allows you to easily create an image slider (slideshow) using Nivo Slider. This javascript slider created by dev7studios and was the world’s most awesome jQuery slider. It also installed on many WordPress websites, too. It’s absolute free to use.

You can choose slick themes to show your gallery. Not same as Vinaora Slick Show or Vinaora Cu3er 3D Slideshow, this slider supports up to 16 unique transition effects without using flash. Vinaora Nivo Slider has been tested in Joomla 1.6, Joomla 1.7, Joomla 2.5 and well-known browsers: Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 3+, Google Chrome 4+, Safari 4+ and Opera 10+.

How to run demo

Open menu “Module Manager“, double click “Vinaora Nivo Slider” module, and then go to “Basic Options“. In “Rundemo”  section, choose one demo from the drop-down list. 

FAQs

  • Does the Vinaora Nivo Slider support transparent PNG’s?
    No. Due to the way slide transitions work it will look weird.
  • Can I use images that are different sizes?
    No. Once the slider has loaded it won’t change size (it is set to the size of the largest image). So make sure all of your images are the same size.
  • Can I have multiple sliders on the same page?
    Yes but you will need to use jQuery v1.4 or greater for it to work.
  • Can I set a random starting slide?
    Yes but you will need to install Vinaora Nivo Slider 1.7.4 or greater. And choose startSlide = 0

    I would like to format the text inside of the caption area for each slide. Is there any way to do this? I tried adding and tags into the Titles field in the basic options area but it just removes them. Any ideas?

      I am having an issue with the slider not showing any of the arrows or displaying my images unless I choose the amazing theme. All the other themes do not display my images at all. The Amazing theme also plays all the images within about a second of loading and then does not play anymore. Please let me know if I need to upload anything differently.
      I am using Slider 2.5.11 and Joomla 2.5.3.

    Very clean and great transitions. Is there documentation on this module, though? I am not sure how to separate the links for each slide image.

        Hello,
        The slider is cool and the images switch fine, but the link only works on the first one – I can’t get the links to work on the other images. I tried using the format you showed here:
        place one link per line.
        Examle:

        htttp://vinaora.com/ — for image 1
        htttp://vinaora.net/ — for image 2
        – nothing for image 3
        htttp://vinaora.info/ — for image 4

        but it didn’t work…my links are to internal pages on external websites and the links take up more than one line, what to do?

    Installation seemed to run smoothly i.e. no error messages. However the extension isn’t working properly and it shows an error message in the parameters Basic Options …

    Warning: is_dir() [function.is-dir]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/media/mod_vt_nivo_slider/themes) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/flights/:/tmp:/var/tmp:/usr/local/lib/php/)…

    Hello, sorry for my English.

    I have a problem with the module Vinaora Nivo Slider joomla template from this.

    Install the template perfectly, then the modules and each slider, then set it up and get nothing but display the images that come with the demo program disney pixar drawings. In the Module Manager basic options, choose the directory of the images I created with the name “stories” but when viewing the site I get the message: JFolder:: files: Path is not a folder. Path: / Applications / XAMPP / xamppfiles / htdocs / name / images / stories / stories

    That is to select the default theme and as an alternative design. If I change any of the other options are default images of the demos (Disney Pixar) and I get on top the same message … I tried to change the image directory basic options – none selected – no I get no message, but not seen any pictures of those introduced in the “stories”.

    I need urgent help.

      I fixed this problem by changing the “slider” directory name to “stories. The directory now is “images/stories/stories/ .

      Decompress module mod_vt_nivo_slider_2.5.x.zip to somewhere on your server.

      And install it with this option – Install from Directory

    There is an error in this module and I have no idea how to solve it. I cannot select an images folder from the dropdown. I have installed the module on a clean 1.7.x and the first time you go to the module the dropdown for the images folder appears. but after saving and then re-opening the module I cannot select anything from the dropdown list.

    Please help I need this module to work!

      I too have the same problem on Joomla 2.5.3 and have tried on a clean install too. There seems to be a bug in the latest version and now i have 30 images to display it makes the module impossible to use!

      Any update from the developer? Wouldn’t mind donating a bit of money to the developer if we can get a working version asap!

    SOLUTION FOR: “There was an error uploading this file to the server.”
    The problem is that your php.ini file is still at 2M and should be at 4M.
    Open php.ini and search for (Ctrl+F) upload_max_filesize . Just make it 4M, restart web service and there you are done

    I had a problem with the “Image Directory” displaying nothing. I changed the mod_vt_nivo_slider.xml line 37 to directory=”/images” (add the backslash) and now it works. This might help those having trouble with the directories in general.

    Running: J! 1.7.3, Mission Control 2.1 (admin theme), and VNSlider 1.7.4

    Hello Admin

    I have a bought joomla temlate which has your nivo slider installed.
    Your slider is working fine but when I activate a house renting component it stops working and I can only see the circle.
    The support of my renting component told that it must be a conflict of jquery functions.
    Any idea of what I can do to have the slider working?
    The slider is only at the frontpage. All other pages I don’t need it.

        I have a JQuery conflict with SobiPro component. When I place the slider module on a SobiPro page, no images display. I’ve tried to select “none” under extra options, but it still won’t show the image slider. It shows perfect on non-SobiPro pages.

      You’re using Joomla version 1.5 or 1.6/1.7/2.5 ?
      Vinaora Nivo Slider don’t support Joomla 1.5, now.

    I have used this slider on a couple of sites with no real problems. installed it on a gantry template site.using Joomla 2.5, yes I have the new version.
    it displays the pictures but with no formatting and a icon showing a missing image in the top left hand corner of the picture. The demos work great except the pictures do not fill the frame.
    have tried different jquery settings and modifying different settings ( and reset them) with no success. Any ideas.
    I also had the problem of no image directory showing. Thanks Cleanshooter for that solution.

    I have downloaded the latest version, 2.5.1, and there is still the same error as the previous version.

    I use Nivo for displaying a banner, which works great.
    I have added two images and two links.
    Both links work, but not always.

    I have set the Pause between images to 3 seconds.

    This makes my links disappear on and off in this pattern:
    110010110010110010 and as you can see it is a repeating pattern.

    It shows the images like this:
    Image One with link
    Image Two with link
    Image Two without link
    Image One without link
    Image Two without link

    Theme is default
    I have no titles and two links.
    I have two images in my directory.
    Slice 1 (Doesn’t matter how many slices I have, still the same pattern)
    Box Cols 1 (Doesn’t matter how many Box Cols I have, still the same pattern)
    Boc Rows 1 (Doesn’t matter how many Box Rows I have, still the same pattern)
    Animation Speed 0 (Doesn’t matter what setting I have I have, still the same pattern)

    Why is it like that?
    If I change paus time, the intervalls only gets longer or shorter, but the pattern stays the same.

    Other than this little weird kink I really like your Nivo Slider.
    Pause Time 3000 (Doesn’t matter what setting I have I have, still the same pattern)
    The rest is set to no, except Auto Play.

    Feature request:

    Is it possible to add a function that only loads 1 image on the first view, and then it loads the rest of the images with AJAX?

    I want this because when I have 2-10 images on my page, all of them is preloaded, and this slows down my site.
    I have seen one other slider that can do this, so it is quite possible.
    The nivoSlider is however the slickest slimmest slider I have seen so far so I am sticking with it. :-)

      Would love this too..I have a lot of images loading and it takes ages before the first image is displayed due to the pre-loading…

      Still a great module though, just need this feature if possible?

    I get There was an error uploading this file to the server when I install VT 2.5.2 on joomla 2.5.2. When I try to install from the directory I get JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
    Path does not have a valid package and the package contents are there. Any thoughts?

      Please unzip first. Upload this module to a directory on your server. Unzip and then install from that directory.
      Such as: /tmp/mod_vt_nivo_slider/

    Today I downloaded the latest version of the slider. It seems to add a extra slide at the end that links to vinaora.com which is kinda annoying. I don’t mind giving credits to authors, but there should be an option to be able to remove the extra slide.

      Is this working as intended? Don’t know if a blank frame with a link (it almost looks broken) will work as the focal point of my main page…

    I have encountered an error (res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm) with IE8 and the Nivo Slider I installed. The issue is really a jQuery conflict not the extension. Do you have a solution? I need the module to work in IE8 or find another module but I love Nivo Slider.

        Ok, solved.
        Problem was only with the “default” template. Setting width en height solved the problem.

    I just get the “loading image” and my slideshow never begins. I’ve tried manipulating settings and have tried the alternative layout to no avail. I’m running 2.5.2. Any ideas?

      Hi,

      I have a question for the developer along these same lines. I am running the most recent version of the slider. 2.5.11 and the slider only displays my images if set to the amazing theme but does not actually run animations or have any controllers for the slideshow. The demos bring up the theme box but have no images and continuously have a loading symbol. Is there something I should install differently or correct in the CSS?

    Is there a way to remove the link to vinaora.com which appears once every slide circulation? It is a great slider and very simple to use. However this link makes the slider unusable for me in any project.

      I agree. I just posted here, Twitter, Google+, and Facebook to try to get an answer. It appears to only make its presence known in the “Amazing” theme. I’m frustrated because nobody seems to have solved this yet.

    I’ve just installed the latest version and the image directory select drop down has stopped working!
    I have 3 sub directories already which I use but the drop down won’t let me choose anything.

    Is there some other plugin that needs installing or turning on?

    I had an old slider in a joomla template ‘theme898″ that allowed text to be displayed over the image in 3 levels, this was done via a css script, unfortunately seems the new slider no longer allow any css modules to be added, does anyone know how I may add said css script.

    I’m using this module with a template I purchased at template-help.com with Joomla 2.5.

    The module seem to exist but the image doesn’t show.

    Unfortunately, the site is offline using wampserver.

    Is there any way that this module is not compatible to work offline with wampserver?

    Hi, thanks for this. Did anyone here experience no sliding at all of images? It’s like completely static image. No buttons or prev/next displaying, just an image (not the first one) in the image directory I specified.

    I tried switching from Local to None as jQuery Source in Extra Options, tried switching back to older versions of jQuery (again, under the Extra Options). Also, when I’m using the default theme, nothing is showing up. When I tried orman and pascal, they just kept on loading. Only the amazing theme displays images, but problem is, it only displays one single image, and no buttons and navigations.

    BTW, I’m currently using 2.5.11 of vinaora nivo slider and 2.5.4 of Joomla.
    Appreciate any help! thanks!
