Media Manager in Joomla 1.6

When I’ve first time login into new Joomla! I couldn’t find Media Manager – have thought that it was removed. Fortunately, no, he found another location, namely, was hooked into the Content menu from the Site menu. This was very good, usability move. But when clicked on this item I felt disappointed.

I saw almost this same old style. The Media Manager is a longstanding feature in Joomla. Looking historically It came in a straight line from Mambo. Between Joomla 1.0 and 1.5, not many changes were made to this functionality. Even worse the Media Manager lost ability to upload multiple images at once.

Wow, no more “stories” folder, was successfully removed. Now you could upload your photos and icons directly to the images directory.

By the way, Flash uploader was fixed, now it’s worked every time I used them. Better, when turn it on “Enable Flash Uploader” I saw new looking interface with upload multiple files functionality.

Don’t forget about Permissions tab at the top of the Options window. It contain part of the new ACL (access control levels) , where you can set default permissions used for all content in this component.

In conclusion, it is not bad, but could be better. I ran out of options for even, the basic, photo editing online.
